In the 1950s Idaho sheep kept giving birth to one-eyed lambs. This condition, called cyclopia, was later discovered to be caused by cyclopamine - a poison found in corn lily (Veratrum californicum) that interrupts the Sonic hedgehog signaling pathway during development.
