Calvin Coolidge with a headdress after being officially adopted by the Lakota Nation in 1927. He was adopted in gratitude for signing the Indian Citizenship Act into law that year - giving full U.S. citizenship to all natives on American soil. He was given the name Wanblí Tokáhe, or "Leading Eagle."
