In 1940 a Jewish couple named Hans and Margret Rey wanted to leave Paris before it fell into the hands of the Nazis. So Hans built a pair of bicycles and they left the city just a few hours before it fell. One of the few possessions they brought with them was the manuscript for Curious George.
