"Whiskey" is the last surviving taxidermied specimen of the extinct turnspit dog, a small cooking canine that was bred to run in a wheel that turned a roasting spit in cavernous kitchen fireplaces. They became popular in the 16th century but became extinct by 1900 after their job became mechanized.
